Freelance - Mechanical Quantity Surveyor - Oxfordshire

Location: Oxfordshire, Oxfordshire Salary: £375 - £500 -per day

We’re on the hunt for an experienced Mechanical Quantity Surveyor to join a high-performing project team in Oxfordshire.  This isn’t your average QS role—you’ll be driving cost strategy on a complex, £50m+ project in the advanced manufacturing and life sciences sector.

The Role:
You’ll take the reins on end-to-end cost management—budgeting, forecasting, contract wrangling, and making sure everything adds up (literally). Working closely with the Regional Commercial Lead, you’ll steer mechanical package procurement, manage JCT D&B contracts, and be the calm voice in a sea of cost reports, risk registers, and change controls. As well as mentoring junior team members too—

What You’ll Be Doing:
•    Cost Management – Cost plans, CVRs, forecasts. You’ll keep mechanical budgets on track and surprises to a minimum.
•    Subcontractor Evaluation – Lead mechanical package procurement and squeeze value from every pound spent.
•    Risk & Change Control – Maintain the risk register, handle project changes, and keep everyone honest.
•    Contract Admin – NEC, JCT, or whatever acronym the client throws—review, negotiate, and manage.
•    Supply Chain Management – Prequal, procure, and partner with local, reliable mechanical subcontractors.
•    Collaboration – Work closely with project leads and clients to deliver smoothly and smartly.

Ideal experience:
•    JCT D&B and NEC contract knowledge
•    Have solid mechanical services experience—you understand pipework, plantrooms, and pressure testing more than just on paper

Negotiable daily rate, Immediate start, long term role with follow-on projects in the immediate area
